Happy Sunday Shark Families,
Coaches Corner:
What
a great meet!!! I am infinitely proud of your hard work and dedication to your
sport and this team! Not just the swimmers but our families too!
The theme this week is "learning opportunities." We all have them. It
can be anything from a DQ at a meet to something that didn't go quite as
planned in our lives outside the pool. It isn't our mistakes or missed goals
that define us, but what we do to fix them and what we learn.
Are you interested in becoming a swim official? USA Swimming has a program for
Junior Officials. You must be 16 years old. If you are not a Junior Official
you should refrain from telling teammates that they were disqualified. This
applies to all of our swimmers who are not certified officials. We do not
always have to share all of our thoughts and opinions, especially if our words
can be hurtful to others. Let's do better moving forward. Parents, if you share
only one thing with your swimmers from this Coaches Corner share this. The
amount of times I have had to speak about the importance of treating others
with kindness and respect is entirely too much. My goal is for every swimmer to
be treated well, and the mistreatment of others will not be tolerated. No matter
who it comes from. This is a learn to compete program and not one person will
qualify for the Olympics this year through it. Don't ruin someone else's
experience, please.
There are so many amazing things that happen on our pool deck! Watching siblings cheer each other on is one of my favorites! I'm always cheering for you all! Even if you can't hear me!!
This Wednesday is our first team social! Let's come together, have fun, share a meal, play games and cheer your favorite coach on during the Parents vs. Coaches Relay. Parents have been training hard and the coaches are very excited to swim!
~ Coach Leslie
"There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work... there are no limits." — Michael Phelps
Swimmer of the Week:
6U
- Leilani L - Leilani has been working on her backstroke by watching and listening to Coach when instructions are given and demonstrating in her stroke the techniques and drills we work on.
- Colby L - Colby shows up ready to get in and work hard! He works his hardest on every lap and takes corrections from Coach when he is given them.
7/8
- Kendra D - Kendra has shown excellent effort and enthusiasm at practice this week. She listens carefully to instructions, works hard on her skills, and maintains a positive attitude. Her growth and dedication make her a great choice for Swimmer of the Week.
- Hunter B - This week at practice Hunter worked on his breast and fly by focusing on not letting any extra flutter kicks come through. Every time Coach corrected him, he did his best and Coach could really tell how hard he was working.
9/10
- Ariah T - Ariah always pushes herself striving to grow each practice. She shows up, doesn't complain, and most of all puts her best effort into whatever we are working on.
- Malachi M - Malachi has been working on Breaststroke, underwaters, and starts this week. He is really making a point to work on the little things that Coach recommends like gliding and getting his arms up in streamline off the block. Coach saw a big improvement in that this week.
11/12
- River R - River asks questions before and after practice about her strokes and uses techniques and drills to refine her strokes during practice.
- Connor G - Connor's Breaststroke already looks really good, but Coach appreciates how he still worked hard during Breaststroke drills to improve even more!
13/14
- Jocelyn R - Jocelyn worked hard and pushed through every workout this week. Coach saw some great flip turns, really good starts, and even better underwaters. She really has been pushing herself at practice and working hard to finish every set.…and Saturday’s birthday girl!🥳
- Kaleb L - Kaleb has been practicing with the entire 13-14 group this week and Coach sees him working really hard to finish every set! At the meet last Saturday, he even agreed to wear a cap and goggles. Those are little things that make a huge difference!
15-18
- Zeya S - Zeya is always hard at work when she's in the water! She completes every warmup and every set given to her and gives it her all every practice striving to grow one lap at a time.
- Tim D - Tim is a great spirit to have on deck! He swims the sets given to him without complaint and can regularly be heard asking Coach to watch his stroke so he can get feedback. This is a great example of pushing through the struggles and working hard.
