Happy Sunday Shark Families,
Coaches Corner:
Even though the timeline was long it was a fun and productive meet for many of our Sharks. The swimming went very well, but some behavior left a lot to be desired. When things are hard it is imperative that we remain calm and treat each other with kindness and respect. Both kids and adults. None of us are infallible and all of us make mistakes. It is how we handle those mistakes that shows our character. I am very proud of all of our hard work this meet.
The theme for this week is inclusion or swimclusion, if you will. This team is for every shark, from the most novice swimmer to the ones who break records. None is more important or valuable than the other. We are all different in many ways, but outside of just our swimming abilities we have swimmers on this team who are differently abled as well. It is with great sadness that we have seen bullying and mean-spirited taunting amongst our swimmers. This will not be tolerated. The majority of the swimmers in question were given their one and only warning regarding the bullying of teammates. I have strived, since last season, to make our team culture as inclusive as possible. It is up to you all to make that happen.
Parents, I would like a quick reminder that team parents should never have to search for your swimmers. If your swimmer does not hang out in the team tent it is their responsibility to know where they have to be and when. Additionally, it is very difficult to organize a meet program when we don't know when swimmers will show up or need to leave early I've said this from the beginning and have reminded swimmers, that if a swimmer fails to show for a relay, they will not be seeded in one again unless they are needed for other swimmers to have the opportunity to swim in one.

Meet Results:
This meet was going to be a tough one to win with Woodcreek being in our league’s top conference, two above us. They took this meet 533 to 294. While this meet did not go our way, we did have lots of positives. We had 124 swimmers get at least 1 best time, 40 of those getting 2 best times, and 60 of those getting 3 best times. We got a total of 284 yesterday! We also had less DQ’s than we had at Time Trials and that is a big improvement. Let’s keep working hard and keep ringing that bell like we did yesterday!
There was an issue with printing ribbon labels and they will be picked up Monday or Tuesday from Woodcreek and will get them into the family folders.
Family Folders:
The bins will be on deck Monday for swimmers to pickup their ribbons. Please note, the meet was not able to finish scoring after long free and therefore couldn’t print ribbon labels. Woodcreek will have our ribbons ready Monday or Tuesday. If your swimmer was DQ in an event, they will not receive a ribbon. You can check DQ’s by logging into your Sharks account and going to meet results. If you have checked for a DQ and still believe you are missing a ribbon, please email Sarah at [email protected] and with the following information:
Foodrasier Wednesday:
Last chance to order your meal is this week! Please either of the two Annie’s to purchase Monday or Tuesday. We will not be selling meals the day of. Once you smell that grill on Wednesday, you’ll be kicking yourself for not ordering!
FREE Sharks Wear/Gear Exchange:
If you have Sharks wear, suits or gear that’s been outgrown but still has life, bring it Tuesday to the Sharks Exchange! Take a look yourself and see if there’s anything that could work for your family. This is for FREE items only and open to all-even if you don’t have something to “exchange”. Table will be on deck Tuesday 5/19!
Team Spirit Challenge:
For our swimmers in age group 13-18, we have a challenge for you! On Wednesday 5/20, post a picture to Instagram and TAG Sunrise Sharks, wearing a Sharks shirt AT school, it no shirt, wear goggles around your neck. If you don't have Instagram, parents can post and tag for you. All swimmers with a posted & tagged picture will get a Dutch card, given that same night at Shark-a-Thon.
Shark-a-Thon:
ALL SWIMMERS PARTICIPATE. If you’re not raising money, you still swim laps. If you can’t make it practice to swim laps, you can still raise money to earn prizes. Each girl/boy age group who swims the most laps, will get special recognition and a prize.
We will have BOTH pools open for lap swimming so lanes won’t be as crowded and kids can swim their little hearts out! Checkout the shadow box on deck to see the records for most laps seam. Can you beat it?!
Thank you to all who have raised money, we are getting closer to our goal, let’s keep the pledges coming! If you haven’t created your swimmers page/account yet, you still have time. Check the email from May 11th for full details.
DO NOT BRING MONEY TO SHARK-A-THON ON WEDNESDAY, WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING PLEDGES UNTIL TUESDAY MAY 26TH.
LIFEGUARD PARENTS:
PLEASE help your swimmer go into When To Work and request time off for practice, meets and Champs, as well as, MOC if needed. For meets, swimmers are available at 2pm and on for home meets & 3pm and on for away. This still allows them to work private rentals. Champs will be not available for both days. The park district is more than willing to work with Sharks schedules IF they put the days/times in their work schedule.
Meet Attendance:
We are still experiencing A TON of last minute changes to meet attendance. While we know unexpected things come up, many meet entry changes from Time Trials and Woodcreek could have been avoided with proper notice. PLEASE HELP US IN STARTING THE MEET ON TIME, and to avoid relays being scratched.
If you need to leave a meet by a specific time, please add that in your attend note or send an email. This helps to avoid last minute relay changes or a relay to be scratched entirely.
Board Meeting:
Join us for our next parent meeting on Thursday May 7th at 6:30pm in Rusch Room 1, to the left of the gym.
Team Suits ALWAYS Available to Purchase:
On the home page of the team website, and on the top menu is a tab “Team Store”. There you will see two links, Agon and SwimOutlet. Agon has our official team suit and other logo items, SwimOutlet has team spirit wear and other swim items, including a royal blue suit that can be worn to meets. For both sites, you select your shipping speed and delivery is to your address.
Parent Swim:
Parent Lap swim is still available and if full you can join a waitlist.
Lost & Found:
We have an overflowing amount of items not claimed from Time Trials and Woodcreek, even a backpack from last season…
Please check lost and found on Monday, it’s usually kept in our shed but will be pulled out and items spread out on deck. Let’s hope there’s not a lot to put back in the shed!
Declining a Meet:
If you know your swimmer will not be at a meet, please let us know by signing into your Sharks SwimTopia account and go to the calendar.
