Sunrise Sharks News - Sharks Bytes 05/10/26

Happy Sunday Shark Families,

Coaches Corner:

Happy Mothers Day to all our mama sharks! Thank you for all you do and for sharing your children with us!

This week our theme is commitment. Are you committed to be the best swimmer you can be? Are you working to become that swimmer in and out of the pool? Sharks is meant to be fun and giving your best should be fun! Setting goals and committing to meeting those goals is important for development not just in swimming but in life.

Parents please remind your swimmers that relays are a privilege and that no showing for a relay will result in you not swimming in one again.

Swimmer of the Week:

6U

  • Calvin G - Calvin supports his teammates by cheering for them during dives or when they are finishing a lap.

7/8

  • James K - James shows up ready to work everyday. He is an excellent lane mate and allows his lane mates to listen and understand by not distracting them while Coach talks. James has quiet resolve and is an incredibly hard worker. Coach is very proud of him and all his efforts.

9/10

  • Callie H - Callie is always ready to go for the next set once Coach is done explaining. Callie is a great lane leader making sure her lane mates are ready to go and know what they are doing if they did not hear.

11/12

  • Holly D - Holly supports her teammates during practice by making room for them on the wall so they can finish their sets and cheering for her team during relay practice.

13/14

  • Arsenii M - Arsenii is focused during practice. He is kind to his teammates and asks questions when he doesn't understand. Arsenii is respectful of Coach and doesn't argue with what is asked of him at practice.

15-18

  • Tori N - Tori is always the first to start cheering for her teammates as they finish a set or while working on relays.

ATTENTION PARENTS OF LIFEGUARDS!!!

PLEASE help your swimmer go into When 2 Work and request time off for all swim meets, practices and champs. The park district is more than willing to work with Sharks swimmers IF they put the days/times in their schedule.
There is staff training 5/16, if your swimmer is scheduled, please go into your Sharks account and DECLINE the Woodcreek meet.

Foodrasier Wednesday:

Practice Attire:

As a reminder from the parent meeting, ALL swimmers need to be in appropriate swim wear. This means a competition suit, competition goggles and either a swim cap or hair tied back & out of face. If your swimmer wears a shirt, it should be form fitting-meaning tight, or it gives the swimmer drag, makes them work harder in the water, tiring them out sooner and most importantly, difficult to do strokes properly. This is the same with board shorts, boys should only be in a brief, square leg or jammer. If you have any questions, please reach out to Coach Leslie or a board member.

Tech Suit Reminder:

Another reminder from the parent meeting and an NCSL bylaw, there are strict rules for swimmers wearing tech suits. All swimmers in groups 12 and under may only wear “mock tech suits”, you can visibly see stitching, will be advertised as “12 & under eligible” and have a green checkmark on the back. 12 & under tech suits MUST be approved each meet, by the meet ref, at the beginning of the meet and prior to the swimmer putting it on.
Swimmers aged 13 and up may wear any style of tech suits. If you have any questions on tech suits, please reach out to coach Leslie.

Team Spirit Challenge:

For our swimmers in age group 13-18, we have a challenge for you! On Wednesday 5/20, post a picture to Instagram and TAG Sunrise Sharks, wearing a Sharks shirt AT school, if no shirt, wear goggles around your neck. If you don’t have Instagram, parents can post and tag for you. All swimmers with a posted & tagged picture will get a Dutch card, given that same night at Shark-a-Thon.

Declining a Meet:

If you know your swimmer will not be at a meet, please let us know by signing into your Sharks SwimTopia account and go to the calendar. When you scroll down to the meet you know you will be gone, you will see a green button “Meet Entry”. When you click that you will see your swimmer and a button that says “Edit”. Go ahead and click that and in the drop down menu select “Not attending this meet”, then click save. You do NOT need to declare if you will be at a meet. Here is a link to a video on how to decline the meet.
