Happy Sunday Shark Families,
Coaches Corner:
Fantastic job at Time Trials!!!! The Coaches and I could not be prouder of you! The next couple of weeks we will focus on refining our skills and making sure that we have clean swims in our next meets.
Please make sure that you come to practice with competition suits and goggles. If you have long hair, make sure you put it up or you use a cap.
I think that we, the coaches, should have been a little clearer with the swimmers about what checking in and out is. All swimmers should come to the Coaches Tent to check in and out before and after their races. We understand that sometimes it canât happen for our youngest swimmers, but it is important that they hear some feedback and ask questions. They may also get a cute trinket or yummy treat! At our meets there will be best time beads to pick up also, and that can only be done at the tent.
The theme for this week is good sportsmanship. Good sportsmanship is showing respect, fairness, and integrity towards teammates, competitors, officials, and the sport itself, regardless of the results on the scoreboard. We stay in the water until all swimmers have finished their race and shake hands with our competitors. We accept results with grace. That means winning without boasting and losing without making excuses or complaining about the officiating. We should cheer our team mates on and be a positive presence on deck.
Coach Leslie
âIt is your response to winning and losing that makes you a winner or a loser.â â Harry Sheehy
Swimmer of the Week:
6U
- Ryder S â Ryder always has such a big smile on her face when she comes to swim practice and canât wait to get in the water.
- Oakley B â Oakley shows up and puts in major effort, he listens when Coach corrects things, and she can really see him trying to do his best! He shows his lane mates how to keep pushing even when itâs not easy.
7/8
- Daisy B â Daisy has an awesome practice attitude! She shows up every day asking questions and ready to work.
- Leo M â Leo comes to practice regularly and always has a positive attitude. He takes feedback very well and pays attention when Coach is talking. He treats everyone with kindness and is a great teammate.
9/10
- Amelia C â Amelia shows up ready to swim. She asks questions and she takes Coachâs corrections seriously and applies it. This week she showed up for herself by working hard to do a great dive off the block!
- Abel L â Abel shows up to practice with a big bright smile every day. He always asks Coach how he did and says thank you after every practice! Coach really appreciates his happy attitude and great manners.
11/12
- Clara B â Clara talks with Coach everyday about how her practice went and what she can on next time. She shows up every day to work on those skills.
- Ethan M â Ethan shows up to practice excited to swim and always gives 100% when heâs in the water.
13/14
- Jocelyn B â Jocelyn showed up every day never argued with Coach about sets. She actually recommended some really great ideas this week, she was locked in setting an example for others.
- Max S â Max is one of the hardest working kids Coach has in the water. He doesnât just show up, that would be an understatement, he works as if he has a goal to reach every single practice!
15-18
- Emily I â Emily always asks what improvements she can make during practice. Then, the next day, she shows up and works on those things.
- Dominic C â Not only does Dominic always show up to practice with a good attitude, but he has been an amazing Jr. Coach as well!
Meet Results:
Time Trials was a fun time to practice our team skills. We had a competition where half of the team was on Team Great White and the other half was on Team Megalodon. Here are the results of that.
Team Great White: 366
Team Megalodon: 316
All times from Time Trials are on the SwimTopia app. When you log in with the same login as when you registered you will see your swimmers name. Click that and you will see The Sharknado Time Trials listed. Click into that and you will see the times your swimmer received in each event. You can also see Best Times if you go back and click Result History. Each stroke can be clicked, and you can see their previous times as well.
Meet Attendance:
As a reminder, swimmers do NOT need to mark attending a meet. All swimmers will be entered into meets, unless they are declined. If you know thereâs a meet your swimmer wonât be at, PLEASE DECLINE NOW. The deadline to decline is the Sunday before a meet. Coaches start working on meet entries on Monday, all entries are due Wednesday. It is very important to know who will NOT be at a meet so coaches can seed meets appropriately, including building relays. If you miss the Sunday deadline, please send an email to BOTH coach and computer:
If you are scheduled to volunteer, please reach out to Annie via text or email.
How to Declare for a Meet - Sunrise Sharks
Leaving a meet early?
Not a problem, go to the meet to decline and in the notes option, give the time your swimmer needs to leave. This is not a guarantee of three events for your swimmer, but Coach will try to get you three events that work with your departure time.
Foodrasier Wednesday:
Team Parents:
A huge thank you to all our team parents, you guys made it thru your first meet and all survived! Being a team parent is a huge job and even though all was great, we could still use some help in two age groups:
6U
9/10 Boys
We currently only have ONE 6U team parent, letâs get her some help!
Personalized Caps:
We still have a ton of caps that need to be picked up. If you ordered a personalized cap for your swimmer and missed picking up on Thursday during practice or Saturday during the meet, PLEASE pickup this week. Caps will be available during practice, laid out in the bleachers.
Team Suits Available for Purchase:
If you havenât seen on the team FB page, we have two families with a team suit for sale, new, only tried on, not worn in water. Both suits are size 26, one thin strap & one thick strap. If youâre interested, please reply to this email or contact the families from FB.
Board Meeting:
Join us for our next parent meeting on Thursday May 7th at 6:30pm in Rusch Room 1, to the left of the gym.
Next Meet:
FEC & Sunrise Annual Chili Cook-off
At our Mayes 30th meet, we need 5 judges and 5 chili entries. Weâre looking for Sharks parents first, and if needed, will branch out to more family. Chili entries should have a main Ingrid card, like pork, beef, bean, vegetarian, etc. spice level and in a crockpot or instapot, with serving spoon, and all items labeled. Judges will be needed shortly after the meet starts, full timeline coming soon.
If youâre interested in either, itâs first come first serve. Please send an email to Belinda at [email protected]
Lost & Found:
If youâre missing anything from a swim meet, Sharks has our own lost & found tub that is kept next to our shed in the caged area behind the pool deck showers. Feel free to check it any time.
Parent Reminders:
As the sun comes out & things heat up, so do our slithery neighbors in the park. Just a reminder: please donât play with or pickup any wildlifeâespecially snakes! Rattlesnakes like to warm up on sunny days, and while they might look sleepy, theyâre definitely not cuddle buddies.
Swimmers, that means: look, donât touch!
Also, before you head home, give your clothes & bag a quick shakeâyou never know what little creepers might try to hitch a ride!
Thanks for keeping it safe, respectful, and just a little bit wild (in a good way).
End
of Season Slide Show:
If you have photos from the season youâd like to be included at the team slide
show at awards ceremony, please send them to [email protected]
Go Sharks!
