Sunrise Sharks News - Sharks Bytes 04/12/26

Happy Sunday Shark Families,

Coaches Corner:

Swimming is a different sport for many of our new swimmers. Swimming laps, staring at that black line, and sharing lane space can be difficult. The beauty of swimming can also be in those very same things. As this was our first full week, it is understandable that swimmers go home tired and feel sore, especially if they are not used to practicing so many days a week. Let’s encourage them to keep going, give their best, and be respectful of Coaches and lane mates.

The theme for this week is perseverance. Perseverance is the steady effort to achieve a goal despite difficulties or discouragement. When things get hard keep going, keep working hard, and encourage each other! We are preparing for Time Trials and we will see our efforts pay off. Remember, we are not all on the same boat. Some of us have swam since August only taking February off. Some us have been conditioning by playing other sports. Some of us have never been on a swim team before and this is our first experience outside of lessons. Be kind to each other and be kind to yourselves.

Coach Leslie

Swimmer of the Week:

During meet weeks, a boy & girl from each age group are selected and during non meet weeks, one swimmer per age group is selected. Swimmers will be announced during meet weeks at the team cheer on meet mornings, and during non meet weeks, the Monday meeting at practice. Selected swimmers have either demonstrated the theme of the week or done something else to stand out from the rest of their group. Please understand, with multiple coaches in an age group, there are multiple candidates discussed between coaches. If your swimmer wasn’t selected, this does not mean they weren’t doing what they were supposed to be doing. Coaches see everyone’s effort, please encourage your swimmer to keep showing up and working hard.

  • 6U Ava B - Ava always tries her best, even when the activity is new or scary.
  • 7/8 Jared R - Jared comes to practice every day with a smile on his face ready to work. He always has the perfect attitude and never complains.
  • 9/10 Maddy D - Maddy works very hard at every practice. She takes correction well and makes adjustments in real time. She has a good attitude and is a considerate lane mate.
  • 11/12 Camden F - Camden talks with Coach before and after practice everyday to discuss what she can improve on and how her performance was during practice.
  • 13/14 Angie R - Angie stayed focused and followed all of Coach’s sets. She pushed through the hard stuff!
  • 15/18 Nick C - As soon as he gets to the wall Nick is ready to go again. Coach has to insist he takes breaks!

This season, we couldn’t decide between a cap or bag tag…so now your swimmer gets to pick one!

Applebee’s Breakfast Fundraiser:

We need your help in selling more tickets for this to be a successful fundraiser!

Sharks DJ:

Our awesome DJ is retiring and looking to train someone new! We provide the equipment, just need someone to run it. This position would cover the volunteer requirement, and you would be needed for all home meets, team socials, and Champs. Please let us know if you’re interested.

Food-rasier Wednesday:

Every Wednesday we will have a Food-raiser! This week is Togo's/Baskin-Robbins

Board Meeting:

It will be a sharktastic time! Our next parent board meeting is April 16th at 6:30pm in Rusch Room 1, located to the left of the gym. We welcome all Sharks to attend.

Officials & Computer Training:

The NCSL Officials and Computer training will be held at your very own Shark Tank on Wednesday April 29th at 6:30pm. If you're looking to learn more about all things swim, but not ready to be an Official, you can still attend the training to receive all the information.

Volunteer Jobs:

Thank you for signing up for jobs. If you have any questions on jobs, please reach out to Annie. To see your jobs, follow these steps:

  • login to your Sharks account
  • top right corner, tap on your name
  • in the drop down menu, tap on “my account”
  • There you will see all your signups.

    Starter Practice:

If you need to miss a practice, please pick another day than Thursday April 30th. This is a much needed practice, especially for new swimmers, to experience the Deck Ref & Starter. This loud buzzer can be scary for new swimmers and taking directions from someone besides their coach can be different. The Starter practice is to help new swimmers adjust and for returning swimmers to practice official starts.

Do you want to perform the National Anthem?

At every home meet we have an opportunity to have a performance of the National Anthem. Do you sing or play an instrument and want to be part of our meet mornings, please reach out to our amazing Activates Coordinator Belinda at [email protected]

    QR Codes:

Did you know that if you see a QR code in our emails from your phone you can click and hold the QR code and it will give you the option to open the link in your web browser? That is a super cool feature of many phones now!
