Coaches Corner:

This is a big week for us, Sharks!! We have been working hard and getting better at our strokes and now we have to show it during competition. That's why this week we will focus on good sportsmanship. We should treat all coaches, volunteers, officials, and swimmers with respect. We should always follow the rules. Don't cheat or make excuses. Be a graceful winner and don't pout when you don't win. Be a team player and understand that you behavior reflects on us all. Have a positive attitude. Say "thank you for timing" to timers not just "what's my time?" Very importantly, do not argue with officials. Come talk to me so you can understand a call.

After our first few weeks on deck the coaches are going to stop rotating for now. Coach Lexi should be joining us on May 19that which point some coaching changes will happen again. Having coach Lexi will allow me to work with all the coaches and their groups so I am very excited for her arrival! Additionally, Slavic Leyva ( also a swimmer) has been and will continue helping us whenever possible and she has been fantastic.

This week we will work on everything we have been working on and focus on the IM, starts, turns, and underwaters. Time trials is like a dress rehearsal for meets. Make sure swimmers come prepared. Caps, goggles, and one piece competition suits. That means no swim trunks, two piece suits, long sleeve suits, rash guards, or things like bows, zippers, or ruffles. Water polo suits are also not allowed. If you have a questions talk to me or any board members and we'll be happy to help.

A note on communication. I genuinely want to hear your feedback. While positive feedback is awesome, if I don't hear your concerns I can't work on fixing problems or addressing issues. So please reach out at [email protected] and we can set up a time to discuss if needed since the time on the deck is short.

Parent Reminders:

Swimmers aged 7 & up will get their gear and meet in the dive tank bleachers. Please help remind your swimmer to get their pull buoy & kick board, and be ready in the dive tank bleachers when their practice starts.

If you see coaches on their phones, they are checking their practice sets and taking notes on swimmers, using paper & pen was becoming difficult. If you feel there’s excessive phone use distracting from their coaching ability, you can reach out to Head Coach Leslie.

Two big things happening at practice this week…

Pancake Breakfast:

We are hosting our first ever pancake breakfast and can’t wait to see all our Shark families there. Declaring for a Meet:

You should have received an email from our Sharks Computer master reminding you to declare for Time Trials. It is important that you declare your swimmer the Sunday before the meet. Here is the link if you need to know how to do that. Declaring For a Meet

Hospitality Donations:

Hospitality donations for Time Trials are desperately needed! We currently do not have many rations to offer our volunteers. If you’re able, please consider signing up for an item to bring the morning of the meet. Thank you for donation! Hospitality Donations Link

Perkins Place:

Still need volunteers for Time Trials, if you will be there & aren’t on a signup already, please consider signing up for a shift. We need Take Down and Shift 2 Ready Bench, Timer, Snack Bar. We always need more Stroke & Turn Judges and would love to get another Starter. If interested, please join us Wednesday for the Officials Clinic.
