Coaches Corner:

Week two in the books! Thank you to all of you who have reached out with feedback. Please, keep it coming!

We would like to ask that you ensure your swimmer comes to the pool ready to work. That means the bathroom has been used and they have all their equipment. But it also means that they are mentally prepared for the hard work. We mysteriously need lots of bathroom breaks just when things get hard. On that note, the theme for the week is “We CAN do hard things!” I keep hearing things like “I get tired,” “that’s so many laps!”, or “that’s hard”. All those things are true, but what is also true is that they can do it! Let’s speak some confidence to our swimmers and encourage them to give it their all. That means we swim the whole set, we don’t stand on the bottom of the pool, and we swim wall to wall. It also means that showing up is a win, getting in the water is a win, going further than last week, yup, also a win! The harder we work in practice the better prepared we will be to compete.

Thank you to the 13-14s who sent in their goals last week! This week I would like to hear from our 11-12 swimmers, who wish to do so, about your goals. Send them to [email protected]. I would like all of our swimmers, even those not in the 11-12s, to think about this:

1. What are your goals before time trials?

2. What are your goals for the season

3. Why do you swim?

4. What is the one thing that is most difficult for you in the pool?

Please ensure that your swimmers are being safe on deck. The showers are not for water play and an accident can happen easily (especially when there are swimmers washing the chlorine out of their hair). Water caps are not water balloons. A quick 3 minute rinse should be more than enough.

On Monday, coaches will meet with swimmers, ages 8 and up, at the dive tank bleachers for a brief meeting to go over the plan for the week. Please help remind your swimmer to get their equipment and find a seat in the dive tank bleachers.

Message from our Park District:

"Hello everyone, I'd like to remind you that smoking is not allowed on Park property in Citrus Heights. If you need to smoke you need to do it on the sidewalk off the property."

The county ordinance is 20ft from entrances, but the city of Citrus Heights is particularly strict. Here is the city ordinance link:  City+of+Citrus+Heights+Smoking+Ordinance

Parent Reminders:

We understand it can be difficult to watch and not join in on the fun, but please refrain from coaching your swimmer from the bleachers or deck. As a reminder, there is a faded red zone around the pool, we ask all spectators keep clear of the red zone, so as not to distract from the coaching.

Do you know your swimmer won’t be here for a meet?

If you know your swimmer will be missing a meet or two please go to Meets and Events under the Sharks Calendar on our website, scroll down to the meet you know your swimmer will not be here and click the Green “Meet Entry” button. Then scroll down to the “Your family swim meet status” and click the gold “Edit” button. You will be able to select that your swimmer with either be at the meet or will NOT be at the meet. When you are finished you will click save and you will see that your swimmer will be listed as either “Attending” or “Not Attending” based on your selection. Here is a video to show if you need to see where to go on the website. Declining a Meet

Perkins Place:

If your swimmer is attending Time Trials, please make sure you have signed up for a job. Time Trials is only our team, so we need all hands on deck. If it’s your first meet, don’t be scared to jump right in, we need you!😊

We are still in search of a Team Parent for 7-8 girls and 9-10 boys. This is a great opportunity to stay with your swimmer for the entire meet, learn how events & heats work, get to know your swimmers team mates and you’ll get to rock a snazzy safety vest! If we don’t get a team parent, we will not have a team tent for those swimmers. If interested, please email [email protected] or text 916-500-1308
